Random Thoughts & Monday Musings...

Cord Howard gettin' his Vitamin C!  Oranges, sweet oranges...

We have returned safely from the land of, "meth heads, Cubans, & old people", as the 4th Down Consultant so eloquently described Tampa.  Victory in hand!  What a weekend.  Maybe the best football game we've ever seen.  Sandwiched in an around the game were a 1/2 mile, $100 cab ride (don't ask), a bartender named DebraLee (all one word, she was kind enough to let us know), meeting Clemson QB Kyle Parker's mom (MILF...), a visit to a bowling alley, and ridiculous amounts of debauchery.  When the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is check to make sure no one has harvested your organs you know it's been a big night....Epic, epic time.  So we'll hit you with a game breakdown this afternoon but for now a few very random thoughts from our brain (that is still sloshing around in a haze of booze...):
  • It's Iowa in the Orange Bowl.  Great match up for us.  After last year's LSU debacle, what we need more than anything is a bowl win.  Iowa is just the team to provide such a victory.  We match up very favorably with them.  More on that to come in the following days & weeks, but we're happy with our draw.  Suffice it to say there was little to be gained by playing Boise St. or Cincy.  And I want nothing to do with TCU...Check out the guys at Black Heart, Gold Pants for their view on the match up.
  • Speaking of the Orange Bowl: rumor has it Russell has designed an entirely new uniform for the game.  White helmets, white pants, gold tops.  No names on the jersey.  CPJ still needs to sign off on this for it to be official.  We'll post pictures as soon as they are available...
  • Like we said earlier, a great game.  Only the 41-38 win over UVA in 1998 comes close. Just amazing to be there.  As we sat in the stands at halftime, the 4th Down Consultant brought up a really good point: the ACC game was infinitely more fun to watch than the Big 12 game.  We can't imagine why anyone would have watched the Big 12 game over ours, & we love Ndamakong Suh.  Hell, the punt was Nebraska's best offensive weapon. Watch that over Nesbitt, Morgan, BayBay, Dwyer & the one man carnival show named C.J. Spiller ?  You gotta be kiddin' me? Great national exposure for our football program...
  • A great turn out by Jacket fans. We traditionally don't travel well.  And our fan base isn't exactly huge in the first place.  But Jacket fans showed up in force in Tampa.  It was great we weren't constantly surrounded by Climpsum fans the entire time.  I'm proud of the support we're giving the boys...
  • Speaking of Climpsum fans, what's with the remedial math & spelling cheers?  We're on record as saying we hate teams that have to spell out their names in cheers.  It's some sort of reminder to their idiot fan base of who they are.  We get you're Clemson.  As if the orange didn't clue us in....(insert "orange all week"/hunting/road crew joke of your choice here...).  But that damn "Tiger Rag" they do everywhere is like a mobile remedial math class. 1,2,3,4 - 1,2,3,4....We can count, even if you can't....morons.  So in their honor: 1,2,3,4-1,2,3,4...enjoy your trip to Nashville & the Music Shitty Bowl....A big cheer for that!
  • Richmond head coach Mike London is the new head man at UVA.  Good, predictable hire for the Hoos.  Charlie Strong will be the new head coach at Louisville.  Tennessee running backs coach Eddie Gran has signed on to the same position at FSU.  He'll also be the recruiting coordinator.  Nice move by Jimbo Fisher....
  • Joey Cerone shoots some great photos of most Tech games.  Check these out from Saturday....
  • Very classy move on the part of Jon Dwyer & Derrick Morgan to seek out & console Spiller after the game.  Speaking of class, both teams exhibited it in loads on Saturday night.  You could see the respect they had for one another in the way they played.  No shit talking, no dirty stuff, no showmanship, just hard hitting, championship football.  Nice to see...
  • On the subject of Mr. Spiller.  We weren't entirely sold until Saturday night.  But when you're 15 rows off the field (don't hate a playa') you can really see how fast he is.  And he's blazing fast.  Laughably so.  As soon as he got the littlest hint of the corner he was gone. We've got some pretty fast guys on our team & none of them come close to Spiller.  We readily admit we have defensive issues but damn, it's really hard to defend that kind of speed.  Glad he's gone...
We'll get a game breakdown up later today.  In the interim, just stare at this & smile....
