Bona Fide; Latin for "Good Faith"
We are five weeks into the college football season, approaching the middle of the season. Don't let that fool you. Most teams have not yet begun the real stretch of the season. We cannot look at their records and take it on "Good Faith" that they are a true indicator of a teams strength.
It is my personal opinion that you cannot judge a teams ability until it has played three good teams. A good team being any team in the top 40 to 50. One game gives us a beginning point. A second game gives us a trend. A third game confirms the trend. In a pinch, if a team only has two games against to 40 to 50 opponents, we can look at a couple games against teams ranked 50 to 80ish.
With that said, here are the bona fides for most of the country's top teams.

Wins over Florida, Arkansas, and Penn State qualify you. Duke and San Jose St. are meaningless.

Nice wins over Stanford and Arizona State, but you are still a little short. A win over Tennessee gets you closer (they've been giving better teams fits all year) but you're still short

Virginia Poly and Oregon State are tough teams, and credit to you for scheduling them. Unfortunately, you play in the WAC. Those other teams are terrible. Margin of victory can only do so much when you play the New Mexico's of this world.
Estimated 100% bona fide date:
First play Hawaii on Nov. 6
You then play Idaho the next weekend on Nov. 12.
If one of those teams do fall off your bona fide date moves to Nov. 19 vs. Fresno State.
If two of those teams fall in the 50-80 range (Fresno should be a solid bet, but the other two are just hanging on) Your last possible date you'll be bona fide, Nov 26th at Nevada. You have a long way to go.

You've beaten solid teams in UNC, and West Virginia. You even get half credit for games against Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. You are the perfect example of a bona fide team. We can say all kind of things about you because you have established a solid trend line.
Example: You haven't played anyone we consider a top 25 team. We know you are better than most teams, but how will you fair against the tippy top? <--- See all those words. We can use them because we have lots of good data for LSU. The dats says "talented but disorganized"
