The Friday Five.....

Well, round one of the NFL Draft is out of the way and we did okay with our predictions. We correctly predicted 27 of 32 1st round picks. Not too bad especially considering that Jacksonville went off the reservation for Tyson Alualu. We correctly called 7 of the 32 picks outright & had another two that were correct albeit it to the wrong team or in a different spot (Eric Berry & Anthony Davis). Not too bad & we got to witness Mel Kiper absolutely melt down as team after team passed on yard gnome Jimmy Clausen. All in all a pretty fun night. Some other things that caught our eye:

• University of Miami benefactor & "philanthropist" (the "U's" term, not mine) Nevin K. Shapiro is in a little bit of trouble. Make that a lot of trouble (900 million of ANYTHING is a lot). There's really no other way to put it. And facing such charges it's only right that Miami rename the student-athlete lounge, once named for Mr. Shapiro, after its rightful benefactor, the one & only Luther Campbell. Yes, he of 2 Live Crew fame. After all, the man whose bounties helped put the swagger in "The U" deserves to be recognized for his efforts:

It's only fitting a facility like this is named after Uncle Luke......

• Recruiting mavens Scout.com went back & looked at the rankings they gave this year's first round draft picks coming out of high school. An interesting breakdown with 7 five star prospects, 14 four star, 5 three star, & 6 two stars players being drafted this year. So they were able to correctly identify 2/3 of the 1st round draft picks this year as elite players coming out of high school. We really need to look at the total number of players they graded as four & five star prospects to get a better sense of how accurate they really were. Interesting any way you look at it.....
• Mr. College Football, Tony Barnhart, looks at possible conference expansion & says Tech might head to the SEC if the Big Ten expands. We'll have more on this next week but are curious on your initial thoughts?

• A last reminder: T-Day is tomorrow at 12:30. Park at the Student Center or Peters Deck & festivities begin at 11:00 am. Hope as many people as possible can make it. If you're in town, come on out. It does matter to recruits who look to see what kind of support their prospective team has........
