Tuesday on the Links.....

Various tidbits & links we've accumulated over the last couple of days, some pertinent, some just tickled our proverbial fancy. Whatever the case, we hope you enjoy, & gasp, maybe even leave a comment...
  • former Tech baseball standout Mark Teixeira with a great tribute to young Tech fan who left us too soon. Good on ya'.....
  • BayBay Thomas & Derrick Morgan will be in New York for this year's NFL draft. We hope the invite portends BayBay being picked in the first round. Oklahoma, with three players invited to attend (Bradford, McCoy, Williams) is the only school other than Tech with multiple players at Radio City Music Hall. If we only had a dollar for every time ESPN plays this song that night......Let's set the over/under at 11. I'm obviously taking the over. We'll be watching BayBay & Derrick & wishing them good luck....
  • A nice piece by the Macon Telegraph's Coley Harvey on Cooper Taylor's comeback from last year's heart troubles. Coley is a fine writer & we're lucky to have him covering Tech. If you don't read his stuff or watch his video blogs on a regular basis you should. Some of the best Tech coverage around.....Go ahead & bookmark that link.....
  • New Kansas head coach Turner Gill knows a thing or two about the option from his playing days at Nebraska. What he doesn't know is who will play QB for the Jayhawks when they face Tech in the second game of the season. You know the old saying, "when you play three it means you really ain't got one." We're sure he'll settle on a starter in the Fall & if we had our drothers it would be that Kale Pick fellow. An unfortunate moniker for a QB, Pick. Apropos, we hope. We do like kale, bitter leafy green that it is. Goes well with sausage....
  • An interesting breakdown of the 2010 football schedule by conference. While the ACC plays the most FCS teams we also play the most out-of-conference games against other teams from the "Big Six" conferences. Seems about fair. We will call bullshit on Virginia for scheduling two FCS schools. Oh wait, they lost to Richmond last year. Which in turn hastened the departure of one Al Groh to become our new defensive coordinator. Carry on you foppish Charlottesville ruffians....Also of note is that Virginia Polly plays NO "Big Six" out-of-conference opponents. But a date with Boise State gets them off the hook as no one can argue that's not a real game.
  • Finally, the sartorial splendor of the boys from Charlottesville. Witness below Jefferson Ignatius Brantley IV, William Henry James Simmerson, & Jackson Raleigh Quartermain as they model their new 2010 uniforms under the guidance of new head coach Mike London.
Okay, so those aren't really their names. But they should be. Some observations on the new uniforms & their unveiling:
  • Did UVA hire a football coach or a fashion designer? What the hell is any self-respecting football coach doing playing MC for a fucking fashion show? Are you kidding me? Can you imagine Paul Johnson doing this? No wonder Groh got fired. Absolutely no way he does something like this. A peek at London's job interview: AD: "Now Coach, part of being a UVA man is a keen eye for fashion & a willingness to partake in all fashion related events here at Jefferson's university". " London: " I have always admired Calvin Klein & since Carolina had Alexander Julian design their uniforms it's only fitting I represent UVA when we unveil our new threads". [Cue soft Elton John music in the backround].
  • Cleats & not deck shoes? Interesting.
  • Finally, these three Lothario's show absolutely no game. None. Be lucky to score in a whorehouse with a $100 bill taped to their forehead. Gentlemen, one must woo the ladies through an exhibition of manliness & virility. A tube sock? Maybe a roll of quarters? At least act like you're packing some heat......
We're off to drink beer & eat Szechuan in honor of the Mayor's birthday.......
