Post Signing Day Notes......

How was it for you?

Signing day has come & gone, a day of resurrection for some, mourning for others. For the next several weeks we'll hear about who had the best class & dominated in recruiting. Newsflash: you know what you win for the mythical recruiting championship? Jack Shit. Nada. Zero. Zilch. Nothing. We'll know how things turn out five years from now when all the 2010 recruits have exhausted their eligibility. Until then it's baseless speculation. Go get a ouija board or spin a wheel- you'll have about the same chance of success as predicting how these classes turn out. Some notes:
  • Barring a last second change of heart, Coach Brian Jean-Mary IS leaving for Louisville. It's a good move for BJM & we wish him nothing but the best. That means secondary coach Charles Kelly is the lone hold-over from last season's defensive staff. Expect an announcement (cough, cough, Andy McCollum, cough, cough) on our new recruiting coordinator & defensive line coach Friday. Just a thought but if we hire a defensive line coach, Groh coaches linebackers, & Kelly coaches the secondary, that leaves us with an open coaching spot. A full-time special teams coach would do us a world of good....
  • The 2010 ACC football schedule will be released at 2pm today. Finally. We'll post our thoughts upon its release.
  • We didn't post a huge list of commitments yesterday because everyone else did & we didn't want to waste our time. If you've just emerged from your cave or an extended crack binge you can find lists of our signees here & here. Beginning today we'll bring you profiles on each of our new Jackets, one per day, until our supply is exhausted. We know you're waiting with baited breath....
  • There are rumors floating about the interweb that starting right guard Joseph Gilbert is leaving the team to pursue a graduate degree at another school. OL coach Todd Spencer refused to address this at yesterday's signing day ceremony. Lot of smoke on this one- when we see fire we'll let you know.
  • Rose Bowl field, our football practice facility, will be getting new turf this spring & the GTAA is looking into covering a portion of the fields so the team would be able to practice on-campus & indoors during inclement weather. If you've got a couple million dollars laying around & want to get your name on something at Tech here's your opportunity....
  • According to CPJ we should have a full 85 on scholarship this year. We can't remember the last time that was the case. The extra two we held back yesterday will go to punter Chandler Anderson & Preston Lyons.
  • Former punter Durant Brooks has signed a two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Best of luck....
  • Wave Ryder, Jose Jose, & Munchie Legaux? Dr. Saturday explains what's in a name on signing day. Note: we're pretty clear why, at 165 pounds soaking wet, they call Mr. Legaux "Munchie". We'd tell you to watch out for the man but you knew that already.....Puff, puff, give.....
  • Lastly, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is an easy target. For that we thank him. He also seems to be a pretty good guy from this article. Good on ya', Dabo.
