Random Thoughts & Monday Musings...

Well, at least there was the Senior Bowl this weekend. That about does it for this year's college football. Now the long, interminable wait. But this week should be filled with plenty of interesting stuff as National Signing Day is Wednesday. Some notes from the weekend....
  • Tech picked up commitment #17 on Sunday as A-back Tony Zenon accepted a scholarship offer. Zenon, of Albany's Deerfield-Windsor Academy, is a Hurricane Katrina refugee who moved to Gorgia after losing everything in New Orleans. A small back at 5'8" & 175 pounds, Zenon ran the fastest 40 time at our elite summer camp at 4.4 and excelled against the competition. Some highlight's of Mr. Zenon from this past season. It's obvious to all his nickname shall be "Noble". It's unfortunate that by rule he can't wear the number 54.
  • Tech had its elite junior day on Saturday & around 60 top prospects from the Southeast came to visit, tour the campus, & get to know the current players & staff. It's notable that we had our junior day on the same day as U(sic)GA & attracted as much if not more talent.
  • Great article on Charles Perkins from the AJC this weekend. Our new #21 has a very bright future on the Flats. His full high school highlight video. A couple things to note: 1) proper use of Gucci Mane!!!!, 2) great acceleration, square pads, breaking tackles, receiving ability, vision, stiff arm, & I could keep going. This kid is for real. And watch the WR crack-back on the linebacker at the 5:34 mark. Devastating block. By the way, he's already on campus & will participate in spring practice. For those of you wondering, he'll get a shot at A-back this season but he's clearly the B-back of the future....

  1. Looks like a very good recruiting class.
@Zenon: methinks you discussed this with your lovely bride. Good call though.
@Perkins: Dude reminds me of Dwyer. Can run off tackle, dive, pitch plays, has breakaway speed, but can also truck a dude...

Exciting times on the flats if Chan will keep his freaking hands off our staff...

  2. Perkins looks like a slightly faster Dwyer Jr. Good downfield vision. Tell me that vid is more than just senior year. Otherwise, he scored about 80 TDs last year.
