Out of the Mists of History!

While working on the All-Barrel team we came across a page eight of the October 5, 1932 addition of the Independent our of Tampa/ St. Petersburg Florida, the sports page. A couple of gems caught our eye.
DUKE FULLBACK FINALLY PUTS
OVER TOUCHDOWN AFTER YEARS IN WAITING
Durham, N. C., Oct. 5. - (AP) Ken
Abbot, reserve fullback at Duke
university, waited a long time for a
touchdown.
It wasn't that he hadn't made any
in the past two years. He had
crossed the goal line four times but
each time there was a penalty on
the Blue Devils and the play called
back.
In the Duke-Virginia Poly game...
So there, Virginia Poly is the officially the shortened name for VPI&SU.
Also of note.
Lean times for the "Tornados" under coach W.A. Alexander.
Rules changed to protect players, Sissy-fication of America continues!
Baseball managers fired at an alarming rate!
Babe Ruth! Star Athlete! Loud Mouth! Kind of a Jerk!
Georgia! Inept!
Planters have work cut out for them against Green Devil's GIANT Fullback: Local High School coach fore goes teaching players about life in favor of beating sixteen-year-olds into a pulp!
