Random Thoughts & Monday Musings...

This weekend brought us to the stark & frankly very scary reality that college football season is practically over.  We emerged from Saturday with somewhat hollow feeling as Army-Navy was a dud & only the FCS semi-final of Montana vs. App State, played in a blizzard, sated our thirst for football.  It's going to be a long nine months.  Some thoughts...
  • If you purchased tickets through the GTAA they have been assigned & will be mailed later this week.  If you are curious call 1-888-832-4849 & get your seat location.  Then take a look at this handy 3D seating chart of the stadium.  Of course we were disappointed in ours & had them moved....
  • Speaking of disappointing, Tech's ticket sales are severely lagging with only about 9,000 of our 17,500 allotment sold.  Of course Tech fans are cannibalizing themselves on message boards over our lack of participation.  I will say this: 1) this ain't a cheap trip & 2) January 5th, a Tuesday, is the worst time for the game.  If this game was on the 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd we'd have no trouble selling tickets.  But with kids going back to school & jobs heating up after the new year, the timing of a Tuesday game couldn't be worse.  It's really a minimum of 2 missed work days.  At best.  Shame on the Orange Bowl for disregarding the fans & taking the TV money....
  • Graduate assistant Brett Gilliland will be joining Jeff Monken's staff at Georgia Southern.  Congrats to Brett on the promotion to position coach & best of luck.  Gilliland assisted with the B-backs this year.
  • Speaking of coaches, there's a rumor that new Louisville head man Charlie Strong has his sights sets on current Tech linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary.  The two previously worked together when Strong was the defensive coordinator at South Carolina.  This would be a big loss for Tech as CBJM is an integral part of our recruiting efforts & a fine coach.  We certainly hope he stays on the Flats....
  • We got 2 phone calls last night concerning a baseless rumor about a couple Tech players started on a Clemson message board that has now spread to a VT board.  As far as we can tell the allegations are without proof & therefore we won't give them any more momentum by printing them here.  If something does come up, we'll let you know.  But get ready for this kind of stuff.  Everybody hates a winner, and we are certainly that.  To quote Mary J. Blige, "don't need no hateration...."
  • Finally, we thought a musical tribute to Miami was in order this morning.  It's the Playa's Ball.  Click here & here to enjoy....
  • A little birdie chirped in our ear yesterday & said we might be happily surprised about the juniors decisions to stay or forgo their eligibility for the NFL.  Nothing guaranteed bt I'm hopeful...
Recruiting roundup coming later....

  1. I really hope not to see Brian Jean-Mary go... He's been a great guy on campus and a huge loss. We'd miss him for sure.

I haven't bought lots and lots of tickets, but I've bought them through Tech when I've done it. It sucks that they're so expensive when the economy's down. We HAVE to get a better representation from the fan base or this whole thing will sputter before it even starts. Good thing we aren't going to Pasedena. I doubt we'd sell that out either.

I am curious what the rumors are circulating on the Clemson and GT boards.

I agree on the timing. Very bad, and having the game AFTER classes start for winter/spring semester is crappy. It sucks, but GT should push classes back a day or so. I doubt it will happen, but it should. I know the OB isn't going to do anything about it...

  2. That's true about the tickets... and that 3D site is awesome. You can find some good deals out there if you do your homework.

When I was digging around for tickets to the big game, I found the site linked above.

It compares prices from the trusted vendors so you can get the best deal. Saved me about $50!

  3. Found floating out on the internet:

How do you address some of the coaching rumors about you going to Louisville?

"They are just rumors. Coach Charlie Strong is a mentor of mine and he is one of the guys that I really look up to. I was a graduate assistant for him when he was a defensive coordinator at South Carolina so he was one of the first guys to give me a big break as I worked for Coach Lou Holtz. He is an inspiration to me and a guy that I try to emulate. He's a good friend and there is nobody happier in the world for him than me that he was finally able to get a long overdue head coaching job. He understands what level this program can reach under Coach Johnson and he has not offered me a job. It's flattering that people are saying that, but it would take a heck of an offer to pull me away from here. We have something special here with Coach Johnson and with some of the kids coming back we feel that we have a chance to be a national championship contender in a year."

    For what it's worth...
